FREMO Invisi — frameless sliding glass

On the coast of Lombok, The Lombok Lodge is a private villa designed by Belgian architect Vittorio Simoni and offered as a luxury retreat for rent. Low concrete volumes settle among the coconut palms, opening onto lawn, a reflecting pool and the sea beyond. Its façade runs on FREMO's Invisi system — sliding glass set almost without frame — so that, by day or at dusk, the line between the rooms and the landscape all but disappears.

By Day

Low concrete volumes sit among the coconut palms, opening onto lawn, a reflecting pool, and the sea past that. FREMO Invisi has one job here and does it out of sight. Sliding glass, set almost without frame, runs the length of the pavilions. From a bed or a sofa you have to go looking for the line where the villa stops and the coast starts.

And at Dusk

After sunset the glazing works the other way round. The rooms are lit, the sky has gone, and the villa turns into a row of lanterns under the palms. The frame is still absent; the light is doing the drawing. It is the plainest argument there is for a frameless system: at neither hour is the aluminium the thing you notice.
